Strip mining below spawn is strictly forbidden!

#1

Hello community,

I’d like to point out that from now on strip mining below the spawn area is strictly prohibited and doing so will warrant an immediate ban.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Has this new rule been added to the spawn building?

(remove this message if I shouldn’t have posted here…)

Can we all try to remove lava under spawn? I’ve dug out 10 stacks of obsidian today as my share. We can fix it quickly if we all dig in… Pun

I was below spawn on Friday attempting to use my 16 stacks of stone to fill the mines, but after 20 minutes of getting lost and patching random holes, I realized that this sucks. My issue with this filling in is that NO ONE WANTS TO SPEND MORE THAN 10 MINUTES MENIALLY PLACING BLOCKS. You simply can’t just “go to the end of the tunnel” mainly because there is not end. Tunnels lead to more tunnels, then lead to caves and more tunnels. It’s impossible to get the job done well and in a reasonable amount of time. Even with multiple people working on it, it would take days, possibly even weeks. The tunnels are just too long.

The team should reconsider using world edit. That way, it’s done in a much MUCH more reasonable time AND it’s consistent. When I went down there, Journeymap showed a maze of mines that stretched hundreds (if not a thousand) blocks. Seriously guys, use World Edit, or it’s never gonna get finished. I can most certainly guarantee it.

Sorry for the rant, but it was sort of bugging me.

Not gonna happen. Sorry. Why do mines thousands of blocks long need to be filled? Don’t we just need to do the ones under spawn?

#8

I’m not sure if you have a map mod like Journey Map or Rei’s, but the cave system is pretty damn extensive. We could fill up just the chunk under spawn, but the surrounding areas might be just as bad. I would love to resolve the lag issue as much as the next guy, but it’s gonna be quite the effort.

#9

But you only really lag near spawn so why would we need to fill in anything else than the area around spawn?

#10

OH! I thought we were concerned with EVERYTHING under spawn. If it’s just the chunk under spawn (128 blocks in every direction), then it’s definitely much less than I thought it was then. I’ll attempt to go back and fill more in at the end of the week.

scozzar we were only filling in the 200 block radius of spawn…

here from the thread: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=537
When filling in strip mines, please:

  • Start out by filling out dead ends, we want to avoid blocking off access to other strip mines that eventually get missed. So start with dead ends, or close off loops that lead to the same place.

  • Dont bother with anything above y = 20 for now, and stay between x490,z254, and x90, z-146. Check the map and try to stay within this square: i.imgur.com/M9bA6Oa.png

  • Leave natural caves and ravines alone. Our focus for now is on the strip mines.

  • If you run into any player bases, please contact a mod to make sure it’s abandoned. If the base is abandoned you get to keep the contents of the base as a reward for your help (how much of the treasure you keep is subject to consideration of the mod)

  • If you find any unlocked chests, you get to claim the contents, same goes with furnaces.
