Arcane and 1.8

#1

Update: We now support the 1.8 client. Visit this thread for more info: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=452

As you guys know, Minecraft 1.8 has been released! Unfortunately, we will not be updating right away. We need to wait for our server plugins to be updated - This may take a week or two, or possibly even longer, so please be patient.

When we’re ready to update the server, we will be expanding the world border to obtain the new 1.8 stuff. We will NOT be resetting the map.

If you guys have any questions, post them here!

Will there be any sort of notification when a player enters into 1.8 territory so that we know when we’re inside the new terrain? Maybe keep the circle on the dynamap that we have right now but recolor it? Just so everyone knows how far they need to go for new materials.

I would like to remind you to make a back up of our map before updating, encase of any world corrupting bugs that may occur. Im sure you know, but just in case.

any update to this upgrade…I for one know I want to play the new stuff. I love this server, but it is dying as people go find 1.8 servers. It is Friday night and I was playing by myself or with only 1 or 2 people all night long. I think it is time to get serious about the update. if the plugins we use don’t have update, it might be time to look for other similar plugins that have 1.8 support. Agent I know you are busy, but once an owner stops playing it is just time before the server dies. I would hate to see that happen, as this is a great server. Thanks for all you do. If you need research help, I for one would be happy to help, and I imagine others would help how ever possible.

I will be upgrading to Spigot tonight which will allow 1.8 clients to connect. I’ll also be looking into “Granite”, a mod which adds some 1.8 mobs and blocks.

Sorry, I have been swamped with stuff recently.

#6

If we fake an update with a mod, how will it work when we actually update to 1.8? Will we have two types of every new block?

#7

That is something I need to figure out. It may not be worth risking.

#8

How about going full vanilla, except maybe rollback (if we can find a 1.8 plugin for that? >.<)

pretty sure there’s a ton of background mods we dont notice that need something like bukkit to be managed (like admins/mods, logblock, etc etc). Besides, without chest protection the number of complaints staff is gonna have to deal with will requires triple the staff number

On the bright side, the Worldborder plugin (whichever they use) won’t be one we need to wait on, with the the new 1.8 Worldborder.

Though it might need to be square…

Here’s an update from Spigot:
