About the server and the bukkit drama

Hi I am dracomine and i want to see myself as a regular on the server, I want to talk about the current situation this and a lot of server is finding themselves in. If you don’t know what’s happening here is a link: reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comme … to_bukkit/

A lot of servers including arcane is using bukkit, I am not going to go detailed in on what bukkit is since this is going to be a big wall of text anyway. Bukkit is more or less not going to be updated anymore and we can’t keep the server on the 1.7 for long, normally having a not-up-to-date serving will make it die, some die slower than others, some players stick to it but luckily this is not a normal situation since all bukkit servers cant update for a loooong while, but don’t take my word for it maybe I am wrong, but I advise you to not count on that. If everything is happing won’t come any further, all servers with bukkit will die, as I said some slower than others but even if all servers was not up to date people will lose interest in it. My suggestion is only to have a stable server, some other community projects are trying to restore bukkit or look alike to have servers once be what servers are today but who knows how long until that happens, maybe mojang updates bukkit but I doubt that’s gonna happen soon so I came up with a suggestion, I wont say it’s the best and only suggestion, feel free to comment your own.
What I want is a fresh reset, a vanilla 1.8 survival server, some may not like it but as I said this is just a temporary solution to the whole drama is over. I know a lot of people rely on /home and /spawn but that’s not even what’s worst, everyone is completely vulnerable of griefing, no greylist or any plugins to protect chest or anything. Maybe even some of the regulars lose interest playing on the server or minecraft in general when they lose all they’ve done. I have seen a lot of reat builds and projects on the server and I know a lot of hours have been put in making them. It will be a rough start but I think it will be for the best.
I don’t want to force you to agree with me but I want this thread to be civilised and let’s not try to put all the drama I am know creating into other threads or in the server chat, feel free to post you opinion. I know this may be bad worded but I hope you get what I’m saying, I am open for correction and heck, maybe I have misunderstood this whole situation and there is nothing to be worried about but as I am seeing it this is what I see is the best option. If this goes trough to the admins i wanna say, dont rush the reset, make sure most players know about it before you do it

Actually, it looks like Spigot might just be coming through! Here is a quote from md_5 (lead developer) just today:

Another thing to keep in mind is even if Spigot doesn’t come through with an update, we will not die. I managed to download one of the latest Spigot builds before it was removed. It allows players using 1.8 clients to connect to 1.7.10 servers like Arcane.

I imagine there will be a lot of players who will not be enticed enough by 1.8 to warrant losing things like /home and grief protection. I know it hasn’t been very long since the 1.8 release, but we haven’t even began to see any drops in new players during advertising.

So no, I do not think we will ever need to go full vanilla. I’d sooner remain 1.7.10 because I think the market is still there. And of course, as soon as bukkit or spigot is updated or something like Sponge is completed, we’ll adapt.

Why does everyone keep talking about doing a reset? This server barely has anything done on it. There’s still so much more to do. Agent has said before we will do a map expansion and I think that’s just wonderful. It will allow us to get all the new stuff without giving up anything.

Why do you think we have to go for 1.8 immediatly? Why are you so impatient? Why throw everything out of the window just to get a few minor updates? There really is no reason for this sort of rash action.

I think most people on this server would agree that they do not want grief-protection to just fall flat.
Honestly, protecting builds and things people have created is a lot more important than anything the 1.8 update could ever offer. The server community chose this server because it’s the way it is. Most people do not want to play on a server where griefing is constant and there is no possibility to backroll.

Also what I really don’t understand is why you want a reset. Please, do explain. Because I don’t get it.

well really its what i want and hopefully something more people want, yes i am debating for 1.8 and to get that we need to sacrifice a lot of things but this is only my solution if spigot or bukkit/mojang doesn’t do something, im sure you wont either want us to stay 1.7 too long, if spigot is coming trough as agent stated this post can fly trough the window for all that i care but IF nothing happens we need to do something, im sorry for not making it clear enough it the original post

You have failed to answer my question entirely. I was asking why you wanted to have a reset?
People have been working long and hard to make their builds on this map and you have not presented a single reason why we should just panic and do a complete reset other than that it’s what you want. (Which, I might add, is not a reason)

Well to be quite honest if all you want is to play on a fresh vanilla 1.8 map, you might want to consider looking for a different server. Because most of us here want to play on the current map.

I would like to point out that many players of Minecraft enjoy the aspect of starting from scratch. Its a large draw for a lot of people. They just like the whole idea of working their way to the top. Personally, I am here for the long game, and don’t care to restart. I see why some would like to, but it doesn’t appeal to everyone, and would erase hours and hours of hard work by people that do still play. sometimes. maybe. anyway, I think that answers your question.

Oh shit. I did wrote an answer but for some reason it didn’t show up. I just went to bed after writing that so i didn’t check anything but anyway, what i was gonna say was that this just incase spigot or bukkit/mojang doesn’t fix their shit in a near future, reseting and having a vanilla server would suck yes but if it it take months until we get an extended border i really dont see that everyone is gonna play on the “small” world we have now but if spigot gets trough my idea can fly trough the window for all that i care, in sorry if this isn’t an enough efficient answer, im currently writing on my phone and having little time do so too
